Workplace Training Program Wins NJSBA Innovations in Special Education Award
The Freehold Regional High School District’s (FRHSD) Workplace Training Program is one of nine programs to earn recognition by the New Jersey School Boards Association as a part of their 2014 Innovations in Special Education Awards. The awards ceremony will take place Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Westin in Princeton, New Jersey at 10:30 a.m. The event is held annually during New Jersey’s Special Education Week which is May 11-17.
The awards program which recognizes exemplary programs in special education is sponsored jointly by the New Jersey School Boards Association and the Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapped.
The award-winning FRHSD Workplace Training Program offers eligible students exceptional transitional services that emphasize functional academics, career exploration, and life skills development. The program closely links school-based classroom instruction with community-based workplace training to help prepare students for life beyond high school.
The Workplace Training Program’s entry for the Innovations in Special Education Awards was judged on content; degree of innovation; how well it addresses student needs; integration into the curriculum; evaluation strategies; and parent/community involvement.
