MNHS Physics Teacher’s Research for NASA Published
Manalapan High School physics instructor Raaghav Pandya spent time with a research team exploring the geometry of non-tracing solar panels for NASA. The team’s research was published in the SPIE Journal and presented at a conference in California.
Mr. Pandya explained that NASA satellites use flat tracing panels, which means that not only are the panels flat in shape, but they also track the sun to maximize energy output. The study was to determine what geometry could be applied to geostationary satellite solar panels so they would not waste energy tracing the sun, but would still accumulate enough exposure.
