Staff Spotlight - Jamie Skolka

Jamie SkolkaEvery year, teachers and educational professionals from each Freehold Regional High School District school are selected to be honored in the Monmouth County Governor's Educator of the Year Program. We are recognizing each of the 2023-2024 recipients in a Staff Spotlight series. First, we highlight Jamie Skolka, the athletic trainer at Colts Neck High School.

Ms. Skolka has been an athletic trainer for six years, with the past three years at Colts Neck High School. In addition to her trainer responsibilities, Ms. Skolka also supervises the Sports Medicine Club, which gives students hands-on experience and private instruction in sports medicine in the secondary school setting.

As her name was announced as the Educational Professional of the Year at Colts Neck, Ms. Skolka said she was surprised and honored to hear the remarks that students and colleagues had submitted for her nomination.

When asked about her proudest accomplishments as an athletic trainer, she said, "The best part about being an athletic trainer is watching athletes return to sports after sustaining an injury. The opportunity to make a positive impact on athletes’ health and [see] their progress can be one of the most fulfilling aspects of the role. I have so much fun interacting with students, and I love being creative in their rehab plans as they return to sports."

Ms. Skolka advises future athletic trainers to make sure they build a good rapport with the student-athletes, parents, and coaches.

"It creates a supportive culture and makes your work environment more fun," she described.
