March 17 - COVID-19 Update
March 17, 2020
Dear FRHSD Parents/Guardians,
As a collaborative, state-wide effort to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19, all Freehold Regional High School District schools will be closed until further notice in accordance with Governor Murphy’s mandate.
As we are now facing a more extended school closure, we have updated our plan. Our initial closure plan focused on minimizing academic disruption and maximizing in-person instruction with the hope that our schools could open for traditional instruction after two weeks. It was our intent to utilize remote learning as a last resort as nothing replaces high quality instruction facilitated by teachers in a classroom environment. Due to the present circumstances and mandate from Governor Murphy to close all schools until further notice, we will implement remote learning beginning Monday, March 23.
The District will follow the schedule below:
- The District will utilize three inclement weather days on March 16, March 17, and March 18. School will not be in session and students are not required to engage in remote learning.
- The students will engage in remote learning beginning on Monday, March 23.
- In accordance with the NJ Department of Education, remote learning days will count towards the 180 school day requirement. Families can access free internet from Optimum/Altice and Comcast/Xfinity.
- Spring Break is Thursday, April 9 through Wednesday, April 15. Students are not required to engage in remote learning during Spring Break. School will be in session in school or via remote learning on Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, depending on the situation at that time.
Remote learning for students will start on Monday, March 23 and will continue until further notice. The FRHSD Remote Learning Plan outlines guidelines and expectations for students as they begin their remote learning. This document will be updated as needed, so please continually check it for new information. Updates will be clearly noted.
Student assignments will be posted in each teacher’s Google Classroom. Please contact your teacher through their District email or Google Classroom with any questions or concerns. Students should check their Google Classrooms each day of remote learning and complete and submit assignments as outlined.
Our administrators are available for parents to discuss concerns that you may have regarding your child during this challenging and unprecedented time. Please email the building principal to arrange for assistance and we will provide support to your child and family. Additionally, community mental health resources are posted on all FRHSD Guidance webpages. Please consult resources from the CDC: Helping Children Cope with Emergencies.
FRHSD will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves in consultation with the NJ Department of Health and the NJ Department of Education. All updates will be communicated via www.frhsd.com, Facebook, Twitter, emails, and/or robocalls.
Thank you for your assistance in maintaining the learning process for our students while we make every effort to ensure the health and safety of our community. Our focus is the children we serve and ensuring they have the best possible high school experience. We appreciate your flexibility during this difficult time. We are here for you and your children.
Sincerely,
Dr. Charles B. Sampson
Superintendent of Schools
