Staff Spotlight - Michael Cappiello

Michael Cappiello Every year, teachers and educational professionals from each Freehold Regional High School District school are selected to be honored in the Monmouth County Governor's Educator of the Year Program. We are recognizing each of the 2023-2024 recipients in a Staff Spotlight series. This week, we highlight Michael Cappiello, a technology education teacher at Howell High School.

Mr. Cappiello, a graduate of Manalapan High School, has been a technology education teacher at Howell High School since 2006.  He primarily teaches the electronics program and the honors innovation and design course.  Mr. Cappiello previously served as the TSA co-advisor at the school.

When his name was announced as teacher of the year, Mr. Cappiello said he was humbled and honored by the recognition.

His proudest moments as a teacher are when former students reach out to share how lessons in his class are still impacting their lives.

"[..] That warms my heart and gives me validation that what I am teaching matters. Being a technology educator, I have [the] ability to design and build solutions with my students to real-world problems. Every day is different, and I never get bored. The students always challenge me to be a learner as well," he described.

When asked to share his advice to new teachers, Mr. Cappiello said, "Your profession is honorable, and you are now one of the most influential people in your students' lives.  Be a good role model and [...] do your best; some days are going to be hard, and some are going to be easy, but you have to just remember why you are here."
