Temporary Closure of Colts Neck High School

November 19, 2020

Dear Colts Neck High School Community,

As part of our Restart and Recovery Plan, I am informing the entire Colts Neck High School community that the District was notified that an additional member from our school community tested positive for COVID-19.

Immediately upon notification of the positive test result, the administration, school nurse and the Monmouth County Department of Health conducted contact tracing to determine if the person with a positive test result had close contact with any other persons while at school. In accordance with the New Jersey Department of Health, “close contact” is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.)

As a result of this collaborative process, all close contacts were notified by the administration with guidance and direction from the Monmouth County Health Department.  Families with a close contact should make every effort to connect with the health department should they reach out as a part of their investigation protocols. We ask that the community refrain from spreading rumors and false information regarding positive cases.

In accordance with the FRHSD Restart and Recovery Plan, all areas of Colts Neck High School are being sanitized as per CDC guidelines with special attention to high touch areas and areas where the infected person was in attendance.  These procedures were taken in addition to our routine protocols.  We strongly encourage all members of our school community to continually monitor themselves for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and to seek medical assistance when feeling ill.

After consulting with the Monmouth County Department of Health and in accordance with the FRHSD Restart and Recovery Plan, Colts Neck High School will transition to Full-time Remote Learning effective Friday, November 20, 2020 through Thursday, December 3, 2020 to ensure the safety of our school community.

During the Full-time Remote Learning period:

  • All in-door school activities will be cancelled.
  • Outdoor athletic activities will continue.
  • All staff and students will continue to follow the partial-day schedule and participate remotely via Google Meets.

Staff and Students will resume attending school in-person and participating in indoor activities via the Hybrid Schedule on Friday, December 4, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact an administrator at Colts Neck High School at 732-761-0190.

The rise in preventable COVID-19 related incidents that originated outside of school directly forced our hand to temporarily close school to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  Please enforce social distancing protocols and refrain from hosting or attending large gatherings outside of school so that we can collectively work to maintain a safe school environment.  Thank you for your continued support as we work to prioritize student safety and learning during these challenging times.
