CNHS Junior receives Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement ROTC Award
Colts Neck High School’s Grace Suhocki has been presented with the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement. This award is presented to Navy Junior ROTC (NJROTC) Cadets in their junior year of high school.
To be considered for this honor, Cadets must be in their junior year and in their third year in the NJROTC; must rank in the top 25% of their high school and NJROTC Class; and have demonstrated outstanding military leadership qualities. The Legion of Valor of the United States is an organization composed of Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, and Air Force Cross Award Recipients.
Grace, who serves as Cadet Lieutenant Commander of Colts Neck’s NJROTC program, was one of 22 honorees selected from thousands of NJROTC Cadets around the country. Grace is only the second Colts Neck NJROTC Cadet to receive this award.
According to Major Gregory Penczak, Senior Naval Science Instructor for Colts Neck’s program, Grace has been a standout performer as a Cadet in the Navy Junior ROTC Program in all aspects - academically and physically. She is active on the NJROTC Drill, Academic, Orienteering (Captain), CyberPatriot (Captain), and Physical Fitness Teams. She is ranked in the top ten among NJROTC Female Orienteering Competitors and finished 6th in the nation in the sit-up competition at the 2019 Navy National Championship. The junior performed over 300 sit-ups to a recorded cadence without stopping in six minutes. Grace is also on Colts Neck’s Varsity Track and Field Team and participates in Irish Dance events away from school. She has completed hundreds of hours of community service. Academically, Grace challenges herself and is enrolled in all AP Courses and was inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS), the Science NHS, and the Math NHS.
After graduating from Colts Neck in 2021, Grace hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy and serve our nation as a Naval Officer. She presently serves as the CNHS NJROTC Cadet Battalion Executive Officer.
