FHS Sophomore Wins Three Regional Awards in 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Racehl Zhu Freehold High School’s Rachel Zhu was recognized with three Regional Awards in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Rachel, a sophomore in Freehold’s Medical Sciences Learning Center, was awarded a Gold Key for her poem, “The Psychopoet.” Her personal essay/memoir piece, “Sunken Behind the Veil” was awarded a Silver Key, and her Flash Fiction entry, “House Full of Intangible Evils,” was awarded an Honorable Mention. Rachel’s Gold Key poem is currently in the running for a National Medal. The young writer’s English teacher, Sharyn Flug, supported Rachel in the submission process. According to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, more than 330,000 works were submitted from around the country in this year’s contest.
