About Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS)

Based in Philadelphia, the Middle States Association is a worldwide leader in accreditation and school improvement. For over 125 years, Middle States has been helping school leaders establish and reach their goals, develop strategic plans, promote staff development and advance student achievement. With more than 2,700 accredited schools and school systems in 34 states and nearly 100 countries, MSA-CESS is proud of its continuing legacy and its ongoing innovations to meet the challenges of improving education in the 21st century.

On December 12, 2024, the Middle States Accreditation team's visit to the Freehold Regional High School District concluded following a week-long visit and almost two year planning process. In order to receive Middle States accreditation, the school district undergoes a rigorous self-study process, examining all aspects of its operations, including curriculum, instruction, student learning, school climate, and resources. A team of external evaluators (educators from other schools) visits the district and observes classrooms, interviews administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents, and reviews district documents.  The evaluation team prepares a comprehensive report detailing their findings.  The team's oral report included the following highlights:

  • The FRHSD meets all standards and expectations for accreditation.
  • The FRHSD exemplifies the standards of support, transparency, and accountability.
  • The FRHSD is a mosaic of learning – a representation of students that is like a quilt – strong and tight.
  • The FRHSD has intentional practices and systems; good systems care for students.
  • All schools show community pride and professionalism and care for students – the whole student and all students.
  • There is a sense of community and a commitment to professionalism.
  • District operates like a close-knit family.
  • The district shows a sense of community that is unparalleled.
  • The district is motivated to continue to learn and grow.

The evaluation team recognized the district's commitment to continuous improvement and its dedication to providing the best possible education for all students.
