Dr. Nicole Hazel
Nicole P. Hazel, Ed.D. began her tenure as Superintendent of the Freehold Regional High School District on November 1, 2023. As Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Hazel oversees all school-related matters regarding curriculum and instruction, personnel, professional learning, facilities planning, and budget development.
Dr. Hazel is a 30-year educator, serving the past 15 years at the FRHSD in many leadership capacities including as Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, and as Administrative Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. As the Chief Academic Officer for the past 11 years, Dr. Hazel has worked side by side with all of the stakeholders within the FRHSD community to develop, implement, and evaluate the goals and initiatives outlined in each of the District’s Strategic Plans, including the current Plan, Compass 3.0.
Dr. Hazel served as an adjunct professor at New Jersey City University, where she instructed classes on supervision and human resources management. Dr. Hazel has presented on a variety of educational topics at professional conferences across the country over the years.
Dr. Hazel spent her early career in Hudson County, where she advanced from a Mathematics teacher to a Special Education Department Coordinator, Vice Principal, and Principal at James J. Ferris High School in Jersey City, NJ.
Dr. Hazel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics/Secondary Education with a minor in Business from Providence College, RI; a Master of Arts degree in Urban Education-Administration from New Jersey City University, NJ; and a Doctorate in Education in Administration and Supervision, K-12 Program from Seton Hall University, NJ.
As an educator and school and district leader for over 30 years, Dr. Hazel describes herself as being keenly focused on the core mission of the school district. She always conveys her appreciation for the wonderful and supportive colleagues she has worked with both in the Freehold Regional High School District and Jersey City Public Schools. Dr. Hazel aspires to lead and serve the FRHSD Community by developing confident learners and productive members of society who are prepared for their chosen pathway after high school.

- Successfully implement and support the two district goals. We will implement student-centered instruction to challenge students to think critically, collaborate, creatively problem-solve, and communicate with their peers. We will maximize opportunities for students to achieve individual student goals.
