MNHS Senior Selected as SADD 2015 Student of the Year
Every year, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and DCH Teen Safe Driving Foundation hosts a dinner for graduating SADD students, their parents, and advisors. At this year’s dinner on May 20th, Manalapan High School senior Cali Arenson was honored as the "2015 Student of the Year" for the entire east coast. Cali was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Cali was chosen for her commitment to the SADD organization over the last four years. She served as a board member for three of those years, acting as president in her senior year. Cali represented Manalapan High School at the SADD National Conference in Washington, D.C. last summer, and is currently serving as a member of the New Jersey State Board of SADD.
She is responsible for initiating the "Seatbelt Selfie" campaign that earned Manalapan High School the "Most Active SADD Chapter" in the Central NJ High School Traffic Safety Challenge sponsored by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Cali was a presenter in district driving assemblies for eleventh graders and their parents/guardians. She also facilitated the annual Candlelight Vigil, and attends all of the Manalapan Township Community Alliance Meetings.
Cali has also been active with Save A Brave and the NJ Brain Injury Alliance. Outside of school, Cali volunteers with "Sandy Teen Fellows," helping to rebuild homes damaged in Hurricane Sandy.
