Marlboro High School Sophomore Will Represent School at Poetry Out Loud Competition
It’s all about the spoken word.
Marlboro High School hosted its first Poetry Out Loud competition on January 14th.
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation partnered with U.S. state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
Ten students signed up to recite two poems before their peers and a panel of judges at Marlboro High School.
Sophomore Christopher Eng took the top spot in the competition. Due to inclement weather, the regional level competition has been moved to February 24th. Christopher will need to be prepared to recite three poems for this level of the competition. Two winners from the regional competition will move onto the NJ Poetry Out Loud State Finals in March.
