Computer Science Academy Students Advance in Cyber Competition
Two groups of students from the Computer Science Academy at Freehold High School have advanced in the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.
The CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Education Program was created by the Air Force Association to inspire high school students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future.
At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. This competition puts teams of high school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Teams are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six hour period.
Two teams of students are competing in the CyberPatriot VII competition. After two rounds, both teams have scored within the top 30% of the more than 800 teams competing in the country’s high school Open Division. They have been ranked in the Platinum Tier and have now moved on to the Platinum Tier State Round. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Washington, DC for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
