August of 1995 marked the death of one of the greatest teachers ever to walk the halls of Manalapan High School, Robert M. Hussey. Affectionately known as "Doc," he dedicated more than four decades of his life to the education of our nation's young.
Doc's knowledge, confidence and passion for the English language helped him to become a legend within the walls of Manalapan High School. His lectures were captivating and dramatic; his renditions of Shakespeare were without equal. Despite his vast knowledge, however, it was Doc's personality that won the hearts of teachers and students alike. A wonderful sense of humor, an intense loyalty to his students and an undying love for education made Doc extraordinary.
The memory of Doc lives on in his students, his peers and the stories they tell. Doc was a model to all who knew him, a truly wonderful man. On May 30, 1996, the Manalapan High School Media Center was dedicated to Doc's memory in the hope that students for decades to come would be inspired by all that Doc represented.
It is within one of Doc's favorite quotes from Hamlet that we find our hopes for him most clearly expressed: "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
Books may be borrowed for two weeks with up to three renewals, which means that you can borrow a book for as long as eight weeks. There is one exception - the literary criticism books, located in the 800s, which may not be renewed.
Fines - If you forget to renew or return a book, the fine is 5 cents a day (25 cents daily for literary criticism books) until the replacement cost of the book has been reached, unless you return the book beforehand. Weekends and holidays, including summer, are not included in the calculation of fines.
Your fines accumulate until they are paid. Unpaid fines will affect your eligibility to attend a prom and ultimately to graduate. Please remember that you are always responsible for what you have borrowed, regardless of who is using it/them.
The Media Center opens from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm., Monday through Friday.
Every student is required to submit a signed Internet Use Agreement before he or she may access the Internet at school. In addition, because the Media Center is using a Windows network, every student has been assigned a user account with a unique username, a password of the individual's choosing, and a folder on the Media Center's file server in which to store files.
To use the computer workstations in the Media Center, you must log in with your username and password. When finished using the workstation, you must log out. The penalty, should you forget to log out, is the loss of Internet access for two weeks for the first forgetting, one month for the second forgetting, and the rest of the school year if you forget to log out a third time.
If you allow someone else to use your account, the penalty is also the loss of Internet access, in the same increments as forgetting to log out.
If you use the Internet inappropriately as stated in the Internet Use Agreement, which both you and a parent or guardian have signed, the penalty is the loss of Internet access for one month and a referral to one of the administrators for disciplinary action. Incremental penalties apply for additional instances of inappropriate use - usually two months for the second instance of abuse and the rest of the school year should inappropriate use occur a third time.
You are notified of the infraction and the penalty in homeroom and must ask one of the Media Center staff to reinstate your Internet access once the specified time period has expired.
