FTHS SADD Named East Coast Chapter of the Year
Freehold Township High School's chapter of SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, has been awarded the DCH Auto Group Teen Driver Safety Foundation's distinction of East Coast SADD Chapter of the Year. Freehold Township was chosen for their dedication, innovative programming and commitment to carrying out the SADD mission.
The FTHS SADD chapter completed many activities this year. Among the most notable was a Valentine's Day event to promote safe driving. This event featured Ryan Spadola, of the Miami Dolphins, who signed autographs and posed for pictures with students who pledged to drive safely for various personal reasons. Another exceptional campaign was the #BIB campaign, wherein students were educated about and pledged to "Buckle in Back." This campaign focused on the importance of seatbelt usage in the back seat.
Aside from these programs, FTHS SADD served as a Top 10 School for Project Ignition, a service-learning teen driver safety program sponsored by State Farm and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council. Finally, they visited Barkalow Middle School in a peer education effort to discuss the dangers of e-cigarettes. These programs, coupled with their additional efforts to promote drug and alcohol awareness, bullying and suicide prevention and safe driving earned them this prestigious honor.
