The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey's (BIANJ) "U Got Brains" Champion Schools Program promotes the development and execution of teen driver safety campaigns among New Jersey high schools.
"Our program has been recognized because of our efforts to involve parents," said Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Jeffrey Moore. "Students and their parents must attend teen driver safety workshops in order for students to be eligible for a parking space on campus during their senior year," he added.
The Freehold Regional High School District's Teen Driver Safety Program involves contests and surveys as well as workshops for parents and students. Each year, students design banners and flags that fly over student parking lots of each of the six high schools. The flags carry slogans and images to remind students of the dangers facing teen drivers and the importance of making healthy choices. The district plans to use the Champion Schools Program prize to fund the flag and banner portion of the project.
The Champion Schools Program is in its third year. The program recognizes innovative schools with cash prizes, with two grand prize winners receiving driving simulators for their schools. Mr. Moore is hopeful for a grand prize. "It is an honor to be counted as a Champion School among such distinguished and innovative districts around the state," he exclaimed.
The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey's (BIANJ) "U Got Brains" Champion Schools Program Showcase will be held on June 7, 2013 at iPlay America in Freehold, New Jersey. The event will be open to the public at 10:00 a.m. at which time students will demonstrate their projects. The formal program and awards ceremony will commence from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
