Teachers in selected core courses administer common assessments four times each year--one for each marking period. The first and second marking period assessments count toward the midterm examination grade, while the third and fourth marking period assessments count toward the finale examination grade. The goals of these assessments are a) to help ensure that each student has access to all of the content and skills required to fulfill district curriculum goals, and b) to foster consistency of experience for all students in our various subject areas across all schools.
Some of these assessments will take the form of take-home projects, while others may be in-class assignments. Our supervisors and teachers have developed these assessments to provide opportunities for students to show content mastery in unique and interesting ways, while minimizing the impact on class time. Teachers will also be able to analyze data from student work to create district-wide understanding of how well we are doing with regard to reaching our targets in each course.
