HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL
Mission, Philosophy and Goals
As we enter this
millennium, Howell High School is aware of the need to provide a forum
where opportunities are open to all. Every effort will be made to
encourage all students to complete their education and acquire
marketable skills and the intellectual foundation for success in future
educational, business, and professional endeavors. The school
environment will encourage personal development to assist students in
becoming healthy, active citizens in our democratic community. To
accomplish this, the school will provide a consistent and structured
environment that will encourage a positive attitude toward learning.
The development of the student then becomes a shared responsibility
involving the cooperative efforts of the student, administration,
guidance, instructional staff, family, school and community.
The school will provide
students with opportunities to develop the ability and values to lead
productive lives beyond high school. This will be accomplished in
an educational environment taking into consideration student aptitudes,
interests, goals and needs. To remain current and effective, the
school will provide a curriculum which will maximize the academic
potential and personal growth of each student.
In addition, the
students will be encouraged to assess situations and recognize
consequences. Students need to recognize and accept responsibility for
their actions, behavior, academic choices and personal decisions.
In order for this to occur, students will be offered the opportunity to
grow to their greatest potential in a safe and healthy school
environment.
The school community
will promote a productive learning environment in which there is mutual
respect for differences. Recognizing the fact that students learn
in different ways, student achievement will be evaluated through a
variety of assessment techniques. Thus, every effort will be made
to incorporate various teaching strategies within the classroom.
Learning as a life-long
process requires that the school encourage both the student and staff to
continue their education beyond the classroom. Academic, technological
and social skills will be developed and updated to remain current and
competitive in the changing marketplace

All
elements of the instructional program will, therefore, be developed and
designed to implement the following goals:
 |
To provide a
relevant education which will make every effort to encourage all
students to complete their high school education.
|
 |
To promote the
social and intellectual development of the student, recognizing the
shared responsibility of the student, family, school, and the
community.
|
 |
To prepare students
to lead productive lives beyond high school.
|
 |
To provide a diverse
curriculum which meets the varied needs and encourages the
development of the potential of each student.
|
 |
To require all
students to demonstrate responsibility for their actions, behavior,
academic choices, and personal decisions.
|
 |
To provide a safe
and healthy school environment.
|
 |
To promote and
stimulate learning in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
|
 |
To recognize that
students learn in different ways.
|
 |
To encourage
learning as a life-long process for both the students and the staff.
